Best Novels and Past Hugo Awards

I went ahead and made a list of all the past Hugo Award winners for Best Novel. I marked in bold the ones I’ve read. It’s possible to get a good sense of the gaps in my reading history. It should be noted that I’ve read more of the nominees than winners which I feel is fair.

I might have to add “reading all past Hugo Awarded best novels” to my reading goal list which includes “read all Pulitzer prize winning novels.”

Oh, and no criticism for not having read Neuromancer unless you’ve read Synners.

Discovering Artists: Frank Kelly Freas

Participating in the Hugo Awards as a voting member leads down so many interesting paths. A conversation about “who won the year of your birth” led me to Frank Kelly Freas.

It’s like what someone once said about Shakespeare: “Just one cliche after another.” A lot of Freas’ work might seem “generic”…but he came first.

2015 Hugo Awards Best Professional Artist: Reviewing C Reid

I just downloaded the Hugo Nominee packet today and it has given me more insight into the nominees. Artists even self curated some works to be judged in the Best Professional Artist category. Unfortunately there was nothing there from Cater Reid. This is disappointing because I’m not sure what he wants to be judged based on. All I could find was a web comic.

Yeah, yeah “Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form” I know. It’s a movie. Everything else up is a movie. When they put a Broadway show up I will list the name as Best Dramatic Presentation. In the meanwhile it’s movies.
